Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that can strike anyone at any time in their lives and in different ways. Each and every one of us is affected in some way directly or indirectly by this disorder. It is therefore high time to raise awareness and get a better understanding of this destabilizing condition.
In Canada there are currently more than 300 000 people with epilepsy. Each year 15 000 new individuals will be diagnosed. Of these, 50% are children under 10 years of age who will experience its unfortunate painful consequences, i.e. inflicted body injury, the dismay and the shame felt around the occurrence of a seizure, prejudice, restricted pleasure, a subdued intelligence, obstacles to freedom, social rejection or alienation, learning disabilities, and grieving parents to name a few. Various research findings have demonstrated that an acceptable quality of life can be possible for those patients free of seizures.
Our mission is to enable people with epilepsy to live their lives fully despite the constraints of this neurological disorder. Your donations are therefore essential to fuel the research required to improve patient care. With your generosity, people with epilepsy and members of the Canadian league will have a new breath of hope and courage to pursue their dreams – thanks to YOU!
